Basically, the entire fandom in a nutshell. Seriously, WHY do the girls always get bashed first before they even appear in the actual game!?! Hasn't ANYBODY bashed the boys for their flaws!?! I'm sorry but as much as I love Sora, I will admit that he is a somewhat of a Gary Stu because he ALWAYS gets the most powerful magic before anybody, he barely has ANY flaws other than he is gullible and does not work well with computers, he is always a happy go lucky cheery person even when he saw is home BEING DROWNED INTO DARKNESS, he also reminds me of the spikey haired hero archetype like Squall, Cloud, and Roxas except without the emo attitude. He is also the strongest one and NOBODY could beat him except Riku and whenever he dies, he gets revived back to life whereas when Xion dies, she still is dead and NOBODY could remember her. That is pretty sad and I feel bad for her. I still love Sora but, he has to grow up and mature a little bit and I can see that during each new section of the game and I'm glad that the creators decided to have a "mature" Sora in Kingdom Hearts III.
I think it's a huge problem not just with the KH fandom, but in many fandoms, and I think it's something that's, unfortunately, deeeeply ingrained in our culture. From a young age, men are taught to see woman as objects or rewards, and women are taught to see other women as competition and adversaries. It's not even a coordinated effort from one place, it's just all these little things that our society is soaked in. That translates to the girls often getting bashed first and foremost (even by female fans), for having the same flaws as male characters. So we see that in KH with character bashing, especially since the canon itself is focused a lot more on the male characters in general. (I absolutely loved KH3D, but man was I annoyed that we got virtually no Kairi mentions until the secret ending!)
I love Sora, too! He is likely one of my favorite characters ever. Although I've started trying to use the terms Mary Sue and Gary Stu less than I used to, since I've seen it pointed out that even the concept of the Mary Sue has its roots in some of that subconscious cultural sexism. It's all a big mess!
Anyways, that is all to say that I love all the characters, and bashing them is at best a waste of time, and at worst an example of the negative effects institutionalized sexism has had on us! Also, I am hoping that we'll see Xion again come KH3 once everyone gets saved.
I love the entire cast as well despite some flaws. People don't realize that ALL of the characters had to go through some type of hell hole in order to be here. I REALLY hate it when people hate a character just because of a pairing or by the way they look. If a person hates a character, they have to hate him/her/it by they way they ACT, not by the way they look. And I'm talking about the way act in the actual story, NOT by the way the reader/player interprets it like for example, I love KH Marluxia because he is so badass and he actually make pink look MANLY. He doesn't fuck around and he acts like an actual Nobody like, he doesn't act like if he has feelings. Although I HATE Fandom Marluxia because some people interpret him as a sex addict rapist that LOVES raping the fuck out of the Organization and he acts sooo girly and effeminate just because he has pink hair!!!
This is oddly funny because it's true. Crazy fans have a tendency to bash new characters (especially new female characters) before they even know what the character is like mostly because they believe that new and different is bad, and because the new female characters render their sickening yaoi fantasies a pointless and wishful thought. Even though AkuRoku was already a wishful thought for crazy yaoi fangirls before Xion showed up due to Namine.
-hugs Xion- don't mind them, it's just better to ignore the people who hate you. And if they try to piss you off...Shove a firaga in their face. : ) ...One a serious note, I think half the people who do hate her know NOTHING of the story at all. Or haven't played the game. Either way, it makes them a hypocrite. I'll give my own(bad-cough-) example; Twilight. I read the first few chapters when it came out...and I literally started choke-laughing at how bad it was.(Now, I just choke-laugh about how dumb the fans are) The characters were, in my personal opnion(an quite a few great authors, from what I've read on the news websites), horribly written. Honestly, I've seen better protrayed characters in a 500 word fanfiction on FFN. ...And now we're off topic. Well, whatever the case is, I'm done acting like a goon and will now leave. -skips away, dragging Xion to a happier place with her-
Oh, Xion didn't turn out as I predicted. She turned out worst.
Don't compare her to Riku Replica. Their personalities are NOTHING alike for him to be called a STU, nor did he take over the whole game, including the main's character spotlight to understand his story. We didn't have to shift through all the "pity me" anvils just to force us to feel sorry for him - in fact, he couldn't be pitied that much, considering his villainous actions. That were his choices, not by situational ones, unlike Xion. Thus, makes it less in your face, and more gradual. The fact that Xion is a complete rip-off of him (and I honestly cannot believe Nomura was actually thinking of copying it every step of the way before, wtf? Naturally, it would have made her worth watching, but then she might as well be Riku Replica 2.0), with the objective being what Roxas's was in KH2. It doesn't help matter that dual-wielding was never because of her (won't say why for those who have not been spoiled), which makes perfect sense, considering a Days interview stated her Keyblade was fake. Roxas always had that ability. The way Nomura tacked on how it awakened was ridiculous, "Roxas's will not to forget Xion". Anything, then, with the right emotion, can bring it forth. Why couldn't it be his his search for Sora? A realization about Ventus, in Castle Oblivion or otherwise? His fierce attempt not to be taken by Riku, or finding out who he is?
Xion's retcon status and the fact that she never existed (so I have to take a RAX trio that was never there down my throat and pretend that it was always like that? GTFO), makes it all the more difficult to swallow, and no death is going to change her bland personality (and please, being a replica is no excuse to be boring. Repliku wasn't) or make me like her because she had a sad life. Oh, boo hoo, poor wittle Xion. Nothing better than to ease in a character than to make it tragic so it can pull heartstrings. Despite that the whole game forced it. It's like red blaring lights were saying "SYMPATHIZE!", "SYMPATHIZE!". To top things of, Nomura said in the fan-powered Q&A this year that Xion's premise wasn't though of until work started on Days. The said work, and the group, wasn't even formed until Nintendo approached Nomura to make Days, which was definitely AFTER KH2 was made. The KH novel writer's, Tomoco Kanemaki, recent admittance in her afterword of the Days novel series saying that she came up with Xion, proposing her to the Days committee, thinking of her entire back story, name and looks, is the top of things. It's basically getting your OC into canon because of connections.
358/2 Days was basically Xion falls down/faints nine times. Ice cream. She runs away from the Org three times. Ice cream. Xion is suffering. Ice cream. Xion is going through some things. Ice cream. Xion is crying. Ice cream. Roxas actually drove more of his tutorial in KH2 than he did in his "supposed" own game. Instead, we have him being all passive and sitting on the clock tower doing shit, just to give Xion some leverage of things he could have done himself like he had in the sequel. Cause, honestly, she's pointless otherwise.
It's horrible. Especially the character murdering that happened just so she's kept around the whole year.
It still astounds me that Diz, you know, the person set on revenge who wants to wake Sora as soon as possible, waited almost 200 days to finally "take the gloves off" that he stated all the way back where he actually should have done so (when Naminé the "she"). By then, coincidentally, Xion had made her sacrifice or was going to. Oh, wow, what do you know?
Riku suddenly decided to let a being who can help his best friend awaken choose what to do - seriously, Riku? Your best friend is in a coma. You're going to let what's keeping him from walking freely run around with you? Considering it's honestly just their second meeting, and not enough attachment for it come to this, it's befuddling. He didn't do anything until the pressure was too high, and by that point, guess what? Xion already made her sacrifice coincidentally. Oh, wow, what do you know? Things just seemed to mysteriously work out for her, doesn't it?
Don't even get me to Deep Dive. First off, Xion, it's not that hard to say to Roxas when you're dying "go to Sora" to make the objective clear, not just "free the Hearts I collected". It's three words, not fifty. Especially when you were murmuring other nonsense. Not even Axel was that stupid in his death bed. But I guess you needed an excuse to appear in Deep Dive so you can tell Riku to "stop Roxas", so we'll ignore the obvious contrived way of how they wanted you to get in there, like everything else.
Now let's get to Deep Dive itself. Again: "REEAKO STOP ROXASlulz". What do you think he was doing there in the first place, Xion? Out for a breeze in The World That Never Was? Looking at the castle? Roxas was never going to go back, no matter what the circumstances. This was preplanned: Diz showed up at the right cue to even take Roxas away. And anything could have led to Roxas throwing the Keyblade at Riku: there's a reason why there was a thick swarm of Heartless circling Roxas, and he had to jump out of the way to a clearing as he watches them (we're suppose to think he's in a tight spot), and then sees Riku. Heck, it's sad that I have to look back at a Nomura interview, way before this whole Xion mess started, and read what he had in mind:
So, let’s talk about this new story, which doesn’t have Sora as the main character. What sort of story will it be? Tetsuya Nomura: Well, I need to start with the story depicted in a Birth by Sleep. Aside from that, there’s the story of how the King found his keyblade in the world of darkness and other things like that. Myself, one of the things I most want to do is to give Roxas more of a role to play. I think it would be interesting to flesh out more of the year he spent between his birth and disappearance. Or making Riku the main character, and writing about his desperate fight while Sora was asleep, and things like that. You get the impression that Riku summoned Roxas to a place of shadows, and that Riku is a master of shadows, so I would like to give him more exploration in the game.
I truthfully would have liked to see Roxas and Riku interaction...Riku actually doing more stuff that others theorized, instead of Riku doing nothing except galloping off with a Sora clone, his new girlfriend, apparently, and for some reason, waiting too long to actually get the damn clone back to where it belongs so your best friend can get going. Right. Anyway...
How about the memory progression? The only reason why Xion had Sora's memories, at least in the interview with the staff, as well as the game (by Xion herself, even), it's because the memories flow through Roxas and into her. Meaning, if it wasn't for Xion, Roxas would have stayed with them. He turned out to be needed regardless of whether Xion had been there or not, right or no? It's not like Sora recovered when she died. Again, look at it this way: if Sora's memories did leak, and it was made a plot point still, it would go to Roxas if Xion was nowhere in the game. Like 358/2 Days finished with. If Sora's memories didn't leak, they will remain with him or a part of Roxas like 358/2 Days finished with. Spot a pattern? KH2 wouldn't have missed a beat, in other words. Roxas was more of the rightful key, no matter how it went.
The reason Roxas left? Even another old Nomura interview:
What triggered Roxas’ separation from the Organization? Nomura: As he kept having recurring dreams of Sora, someone he didn’t know, he felt he needed to leave the Organization to find out who these people he didn’t know were. As Axel didn’t want him to go, he didn’t tell Sora about Roxas in Castle Oblivion, did he?
And that was still a highly conducted reason in 358/2 Days itself, considering they couldn't retcon that, so they had to work around it.
The fact that the ONLY way to cover their ass for this ass pull was to, lol have everyone and their mother forget her says enough.
358/2 Days was unnecessary and pointless, along with dear Xion. You take her out, and there's no scratch whatsoever. Anything could have explained the events, and you don't have to think too rough on how. Hell, even a few sentences of a Nomura interview could have given simple answers. There was never much of "plot holes" - they made it much more convoluted instead and did things that do not make sense. OMG, so we have this Sora clone made of memories who's not really Kaiir anything, but takes away Sora's memories from Roxas but has no gender, and whatever. Erm, no. Xion didn't even need to be a "14th member". Naminé anyone? With no coat or number, and doing Organization's bidding?
This was nothing but filler, and a marketing strategy. And I don't think anything could detract from me disliking Xion after all I had to go through only for it to turn out that I didn't have to go through it at all. The pity strategy worked on some, but thankfully, not me. I honestly would have preferred a Roxas/Riku game the way it seemed to be headed for until it hit rock bottom. Taking a novel author's idea was a full on mistake. I mean, like her all you want, but I don't know how the game improved her.
358/2 Days was basically Xion falls down/faints nine times. Ice cream. She runs away from the Org three times. Ice cream. Xion is suffering. Ice cream. Xion is going through some things. Ice cream. Instead, we have him being all passive and sitting on the clock tower doing shit, just to give Xion some leverage of things he could have done himself like he had in the sequel. Cause, honestly, she's pointless otherwise. That's a statement you can only make by utterly ignoring EVERYTHING ELSE that went on, even the things they actually TALKED ABOUT over the ice cream. "It still astounds me that Diz, you know, the person set on revenge who wants to wake Sora as soon as possible, waited almost 200 days to finally "take the gloves off" that he stated all the way back where he actually should have done so (when Naminé the "she"). By then, coincidentally, Xion had made her sacrifice or was going to. Oh, wow, what do you know?" HOW was it coincidental? Sora's memory troubles were DIRECTLY LINKED to Xion's status. In fact, his lost memories were the entire reason she existed. Of COURSE events surrounding Sora and Xion are going to coincide.
"Riku suddenly decided to let a being who can help his best friend awaken choose what to do - seriously, Riku? Your best friend is in a coma. You're going to let what's keeping him from walking freely run around with you? Considering it's honestly just their second meeting, and not enough attachment for it come to this, it's befuddling. He didn't do anything until the pressure was too high, and by that point, guess what? Xion already made her sacrifice coincidentally. Oh, wow, what do you know? Things just seemed to mysteriously work out for her, doesn't it?" The thing is, Riku's not a heartless jerkwad. He's ALLOWED to sympathize with other people, especially since said person is at core a memory of one of his greatest friends. "Don't even get me to Deep Dive. First off, Xion, it's not that hard to say to Roxas when you're dying "go to Sora" to make the objective clear, not just "free the Hearts I collected". It's three words, not fifty. But I guess you needed an excuse to appear in Deep Dive so you can tell Riku to "stop Roxas", so we'll ignore the obvious contrived way of how they wanted you to get in there, like everything else." Well one, she was DYING at the time (excuse her for not being able to get everything out), and two, she hardly expected him to go on a SUICIDE MISSION.
358/2 Days was unnecessary and pointless, along with dear Xion. You take her out, and there's no scratch whatsoever. Except for the fact that: 1) It is a prime example of how ANYONE, even Nobodies, can grow hearts of their own over time. 2) It shows just how much Xehanort wanted a Sora on his team, even going so far to have a backup Roxas created. 3) It shows why the hey Sora's recovery took an entire year. 4) It gave us a glimpse at the Organization's behind-the-scenes schemes, like Saix's screwing over folks to get to the top, and Xemnas's desire to find the elusive "Chamber of Waking".
How about the memory progression? KH2 wouldn't have missed a beat, in other words. Roxas was more of the rightful key, no matter how it went. You completely missed one of the biggest purposes the Organization had for making Xion; They were trying to prevent Sora from EVER WAKING.
.... Just wondering, but...Does anyone really CARE? I mean, if you don't like her, just say it. Don't make this long ass comment that has no purpose whatsoever. PS; Xion was rated the best new character of 2009. Hope you'd like to know that.
Yeah, and then people will ask "well, why don't you like it?". I rather just explain myself rather than be deemed the usual stereotypes of "I hate vaginas" or I am "yaoi fangirl". Because, apparently, a character can't suck unless you're one of those two. And Xion sucks ass for a lot of reasons. You didn't have to read, but you did. Don't complain about it after.
PS: Oh, yeah, that Nintendo Power crap? Where 358/2 Days won everything when it didn't even excel in the category it presented? I'll take the fandom's hatred over a biased poll that voted anything KH. That, and...I don't really give a damn. Hope you'd like to know that .
Uh. I was just mentioning that you didn't HAVE to go to the trouble of postign such a long post. It's completely pointless, and won't change the fact that Xion IS there and there IS people who like her. No point throwing some stupid goddamned hissy fit over a FICTIONAL person. God. You're so immature.
PS; It wasn't just nintendo power, It was several other magazines(and some wbesites, too, if I remmebr correctly).
Immature? You're much more of an example, sorry. It's rather pathetic for you to place that "PS" as if I would get peeved over that little thing. The least you could do is make your intention less damn obvious.
I prefer having good reasons behind my hate, and for it to be known that there's more to Xion than being a target for hating boobs (or lack of, in this case) and being a supposed "cockblock". Seeing what the topic is, I can choose how much to write about it and how long. You didn't have to read, you whined, doesn't change the fact that it's there.
No one's having a "hissy fit", lmao, let alone over Xion. You just want me to have a hissy fit over that pointless character. The problem lies with you, and how ridiculous you came out, and I responded accordingly. There's no point of trying to LOVE or be protective of a fictional character either. There ARE people who think "she" ruined the game and there ARE people who dislike her just as much. I just wrote the sound reasons as to why.
Never heard of those polls (if they exist), and again, really don't care.
Now, if you're finished, I can move on to do better things. And if you're not, then you just have to talk to the wall. Have a good time with that.
a 'PS' is more for a passage that was forgotten, expecially in a written letter. I know this is not a written with your two hands letter, but that does not mean I cannot use a letter term. And while I am being immature, because I know I am in all sense of the word, does not mean you are not either. To claim you are not si just making you seem more immature then you really are. I never mentioned or though of you hating Xion over 'not having boobs', and why should I? I'm a girl, and I don't like othe rgirls is such a way. and I don't even know that a 'cockblock' is. Just because I'm in my later years of high school, does not mean I know every dirty thing in the book. I don't 'love' Xion as a person, but I like her as a character in a story. That is basicaly what most people feel. Oh, and if you weren't having a hissy fit, then you were having a somewhat-calm comment about the whole monitor long that nobody really cared to know(or they would have looked it up themselves). Just like how you say you dn't care about this at all. Wouldn't that mean that there was no point to you previous comment, if you did not care? Because, if you didn't, you wouldn't have made the first comment in the first place. So really, you're just denying your own intentions. Besides, I think it's terribly stupid to try and make others see what you see. It's like trying to force a buddhist to see everything in christianity: It doesn't work. I was also trying to keep my own comments short so that I didn't take more of the page then I should, but you are rude, and ended upi ticking me off. Oh, and I'd like to think I can actually hold an arguement without cusses such as yourself. And I don't mind 'talking to the wall,' I like to talk to myself to cheer myself up everyday, anyway, and I've been meaning to say some of this anyway, so It's like hitting two birds with one stone. Or maybe three.
@twilight--13. Xion is needed! This story explained a ton. It explained how roxas had recieved 2 keyblades and why he left the organization and up to why he was at twilight town. For chain of memories it tells you why they took apart sora's memories in the first place. That is why it took ten times longer to get sora to regain his memories. Any one not agree with me then grow up. Give a reason before you start hating!
Ugh, poor thing. I happen to adore Xion, and I never hated her before the game even came stateside. She's not a mary-sue, KAIRI is a mary-sue. Xion is a DOLL, a CLONE, she was made to basically be a killing machine, it's no wonder she doesn't have a personality, her whole life was made to screw her over from the moment she woke up. It's given that her personality is a little lackluster because of her origin.
Stupidity and immaturity. I love Akuroku just as much as the next fan, but come on, give her a break. Fans really, really need to learn a little maturity, though I know it'll never happen.
yeh.....im not ashamed to admit that i WAS one of those angry mobsters. But after playing the game all the way through...I don't think she's as horrible as i thought she was gonna be. I can tolerate her. Maybe it's because she looked so much like Kairi that i got so mad and was like..."This game doesn't NEED anymore Kairi clones!!" lol
I was skeptical myself when they first showed info on her, but yeah, after actually playing the game, she comes out as okay to me. The game at least explained why she looked so much like Kairi (at least to certain people. XD)
